We currently have about 20 volunteers from a range of churches in Basildon plus a dedicated group of cooks.
The name is based on Isaiah chapter 58 verse 7 in the Bible: “…is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter – when you see the naked, to clothe him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?”
We provide a free hot meal throughout the year (on average 15-20 meals x6 per week), hot drink & support to any adult in need or rough sleeping/homeless (unaccompanied children are not admitted)
Each evening we also provide:
A listening ear
Prayer available for people and their situations
Practical help e.g. clothes, sleeping bags, tents, form filling, etc
Signposting to other agencies e.g., benefits, housing, training, rehab, Essex Savers, debt counselling, health & wellbeing etc
We meet at:
Monday: 6.00 to 7.30 at the Salvation Army at Fauners, off Cherrydown West
Tuesday: 6.00 to 7.30 at the Christian Growth Centre in Times Square
Wednesday and Thursday: 6.00 to 7.30 at the Church in Honeypot Lane
Friday: 6.00 to 7.30 at the Salvation Army at Fauners, off Cherrydown West
Saturday: 6.00 to 7.30 at Kingswood Baptist Church in Codenham Straight
We are a self-supporting charity (Charity No. 267593) within Churches Together in Basildon. Our main income each year is our Sponsored Sleep Out
Finance
Our annual sponsored sleep out is usually our main source of income. For several years due to Covid restrictions we have held a virtual sleep out. In December 2022 we had our first post covid proper sleep out at Trinity Methodist Church
Thanks to the commitment of a dozen volunteers who braved the cold to sleep outside we raised nearly £4,00
As a charity we rely on the donations of individuals & churches. The money raised from the Annual Sponsored Sleep-out pays for the year’s food, rent, supplies, and the training of volunteers.
Throughout the year we will partner with:
Basildon Community Resource Centre
Basildon Citizens Advice Bureau
Basildon Food Banks,
CAP Debt Centre
Basildon Council Homelessness Department & St Mungo’s.
