Basildon Borough : Pavement to Home Project
Theis project is now working well. About 10 people ar taking advantage of the chance to sleep inside for three nights a week. Maybr next year we may be able to provide a warm dry ahelter for seven nights a week.
For some people a sleeping bag is their home
For the last few years several churches and community groups have been providing food and practical support to homeless men and women around Basildon Town Centre. The number of homeless people is increasing, and so the groups, alongside Basildon Borough Council, have set up a working group to co-ordinate their limited resources for the best effect
In our first year we have opened a night shelter on 3 nights a week, at different locations in church halls.
Homeless people can get a welcome, a hot drink, a bed for the night and a breakfast in the morning.
The shelters are open from 10:00pm to 8:00am. This is running from 1st December 2016 to 31st March 2017.
The night shelter is run by volunteers from the churches and local community.
There is help available to our guests to link them into a network of services and support.
